Beyond Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and into Belonging (B): Including B in the DEI Framework

This panel will discuss the evolution of the Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) framework within their organizations to include a focus on cultural change to welcome diverse stakeholders and ensure a culture of inclusiveness and belonging, which contributes to feeling safe, accepted, and valued. This positions people to live up to their potential and be productive in the organization. This in turn, positively impacts the organization’s performance, reputation, and bottom line. A portion of the session will be interactive where participants will be encouraged to share workplace experiences that enhance and impede staff/volunteer/board engagement and belonging.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe how “belonging” fits into the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion framework.
  • Discuss why the “B” for “belonging” is an important concept for improving organizational performance and employee recruitment and retention.
  • Identify three ways organizations can enhance a sense of belonging for employees.
