Because They Said So

Come join our targeted networking activity to share our experiences and yours on the answers to the question, “Why is a public member being recruited for the board?”

This question was asked by a board member to a staff person and the answer provided was “Because the NCCA says so.” Whether you are new to credentialing or an old hand, we welcome you to participate in a guided opportunity to network.

The activities will be facilitated by Denise Fandel, one of the authors of the Governance chapter in the I.C.E. Handbook, Michele Warholic and Nancy Ahluwalia, the two public members of NCCA, and Laura Gordon, a current public member for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.

Questions that might be discussed in small groups include:
• How does your organization benefit from having a public member on your board?
• What board documents should address the role and duties of the public member?
• How can the board support the public member’s inclusion and unique value?
• What information does the NCCA want to know about the Certification Board public member?

We expect that other questions will be suggested by the participants. The goals of the activity are to give participants time to network with many, while, at the same time, developing a strong understanding of the role of the public member on credentialing boards.
